WHAT NOW? A Post-Election Brainstorm

  • StoreFrontLab 337 Shotwell Street San Francisco, CA, 94110 United States (map)

— Martin Luther King Jr.

We conceived of Season 4: NOW! as a call to action; what does this mean today? Join us Wednesday Nov. 16 for an open conversation about reactions and observations, priorities and opportunities, as well as strategies and tactics—from individual practice to full-scale actions—that will guide us through this storm.

***With special guest Charles Derber skyping in from Boston***

Derber is Professor of Sociology at Boston College, where he writes extensively on the "big picture" of American culture and global capitalism. His recent books focus on climate change, capitalism, globalization, terrorism, the culture of hegemony, and the power of multinational corporations. He specializes in the examination of the "American Dream" and the crisis of individualism that defines American life, showing how our problems of community are organically tied to economic and political forces.

Derber's recent publications include Sociopathic Society: A People's Sociology of the United States (2013); Surplus American: How the 1% is Making Us Redundant, co-authored with Yale Magrass (2015); Marx's Ghost: Midnight Conversations on Changing the World (2015); Greed to Green: Solving Climate Change and Remaking the Economy (2010); and Regime Change Begins at Home: Freeing America From Corporate Rule (2004)
